UPDATE OCTOBER 2006 STORM
10-20-06
TOWN OF CLARENCE
Kathleen Hallock, Supervisor
The Town of Clarence continues to operate under a State of Emergency.
Power restoration continues in Clarence daily. NYSEG reports to the Supervisor on a regular basis, giving updates. Unfortunately with the devastation of this storm some areas in Town received major damage to wires and poles.
The Disaster Coordinator and I met with the County Department of Emergency Services (EOC) and Representatives of SEMA and FEMA who made a tour of the Town.
Highway Superintendent Ted Donner and his Department have been working from dusk to dawn cleaning debris from the roads. The Town has received help from Erie County Highway, Cattaraugus County, Chautauqua County, Towns of Grand Island and Wales. The EOC has arranged for help from the NYS Department of Transportation. Crews will continue cleaning the Town until it is done. Please do not include other debris with your brush when moving it to the curb. Do not block fire hydrants or put the brush in the road.
The Parks Department has been assisting people pumping water from their basements.
I can not thank the Volunteer Fire Companies and other agencies enough for their assistance with the residents. Most of all, I want to thank the residents for their patience throughout this hard time. It has been very difficult for all of us.
Eastern Hills Sunrise Rotary group has offered to help the elderly with cleanup of branches:
