The Town of Colden Dog Control Officer is Amy Bessey. She can be reached at 941-1DOG. Residents should be aware that a Dog Census is being conducted in Colden. The dog Control Officer is visiting each residence in order to obtain license information. Failure to license your dog may result in a fine.
If you are the owner of an unlicensed dog, please obtain an application for a license from the Town Clerk's Office. A current rabies certificate and a spaying/neutering certificate, if applicable, must accompany your application. Fees are $5.00 for a spayed/neutered dog and $13.00 for an unspayed/unneutered dog. New legislation requires dogs to be licensed at 4 month's of age. Checks should be made payable to the Town of Colden.
The Town of Colden does go by and enforces Article 7 of the NYS Agriculture and Markets Law, which is entitled "Licensing, Identification and Control of Dogs." The Dog Control Officer may seize a dog that has no identification and is not on the owner's property. Therefore, dog owners are advised to keep their dogs on their own property. Problems have occurred during ditch and shoulder repair. Invisible fences have been dug up during this process. If you are planning to install an invisible fence the Town advises the fence be installed at least 5 feet back from the road ditch to prevents problems when ditches or shoulder work are necessary.
The Dog Control Officer occasionally receives calls from people looking to adopt a dog. If you have a dog that you need a home for, or have a home that you would like a dog in, please call the Dog Control Officer with your information. She will do her best to place your pet in a loving home, or find a loving pet for your home.
