County Chiefs Announce Scholarship Criteria and Deadline
The objectives of the Erie County Fire Chiefs Mutual Aid Organization’s Memorial Scholarship are to enhance academic achievement at the college level for all firefighters of Erie County and their immediate family. The Erie County Fire Chiefs’ will award scholarships annually for the academic year commencing in September.


You’re Invited: Crossing Borders Conference
This conference is the region’s only emergency preparedness conference with national and international presenters and participants. This conference expands to cover topics in Business Continuity and Continuity of Operations as well as Hazardous Materials and Regulatory Compliance.

Fire Tower Demolished to Pave Way for New Training Center
Members of the Erie County Department of Emergency Services (ESU) were on hand to provide communications, traffic, perimeter and support services for the blasting and final demolition of the fire training tower located in Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park, NY. Firefighters Rally for Amanda’s Law – Now in Effect
“The only safe way to detect this colorless, odorless gas in your home is with a carbon monoxide alarm,” said Ken Hansen, father of Amanda Hansen. “My hope is that Amanda’s Law will help protect other families from losing loved ones to carbon monoxide poisoning. If you don’t have a CO alarm in your home, I urge you to install one today.”

The Department of Emergency Services works closely with the entire emergency services community in Erie County, serving the public and first responders alike.

The Fire Safety Division supports each of the County's 94 volunteer fire departments, and three career fire departments. The Fire Safety Office manages the Emergency Services Training & Operations Center in Cheektowaga and two other field training centers in Amherst and Orchard Park where some 4,000 fire fighters annually receive training.

The Department maintains a countywide radio system consisting of over 3,000 mobile and portable radios, 14 base stations and several radio towers.

The Division of Emergency Medical Services trains all ambulance crews and emergency medical squads consisting of emergency medical technicians and paramedics. It dispatches all ambulance calls in Buffalo and coordinates all ambulance calls throughout Erie County.

The Disaster Office maintains a comprehensive emergency management plan to maximize a timely and effective response to major emergencies and disasters.
