Erie County Auto Bureau Call Center to Continue; Increased Volume Expected When State DMV Toll Free Number Ends Monday
Erie County Clerk Kathy Hochul is reminding County residents that Department of Motor Vehicle questions can still be answered with a local call to the Auto Bureau Call Center. Restored by Hochul in September 2007, the Call Center is equipped with operators who can answer D.M.V. questions from local residents. Due to budget constraints, New York State is discontinuing the toll-free D.M.V. customer service line on February 2nd, replacing the information line with a series of numbers that would incur long distance charges.
"I want to assure our Erie County customers that we will continue to offer this service free of charge. We expect that the elimination of the toll free number will motivate more customers to take advantage of our local service," said Erie County Clerk Kathy Hochul.
The local Call Center number is 858-7450 and the hours of operation are 8:30am-4:30pm on Monday-Friday. Another option for information is to log on to the County Clerk's website at www.erie.gov/clerk for information regarding locations, hours of operation, services available and fee schedules for the 12 auto bureau outlets. Customers can click on the "Clickable Map" to locate the auto bureaus closest to their location.
