COUNTY CLERK ANNOUNCES NEW STATE LAW TO MAKE ERIE COUNTY #2 IN STATE TO ALLOW ALL CASES TO BE FILED ELECTRONICALLY

Thanks Sen. Volker and Assemblyman Schimminger for Securing Passage; Governor Signed into Law this Week

In an effort to continue bringing technological advances to the Clerk's Office to save time and money for customers, Erie County Clerk Kathy Hochul said she was delighted that Governor Paterson signed recently a bill into law that had been recommended by her to the WNY Delegation earlier this year. "Our local delegation heard our call for assistance and joined in supporting bills introduced by Senator Dale Volker and Assemblyman Robin Schimminger to allow attorneys to file electronically any type of case in Erie County. This builds on our earlier, yet more limited initiative, and dramatically expands the potential use of this convenience for lawyers. Easy round the clock access to court documents, a reduction in paper handling, service and storage costs are the benefits of this measure. This is a first for Erie County, and we are second only to Broome County in the State," said Hochul.

"I am always looking for services that are at the cutting edge to benefit our customers. This law will allow court fees to be paid on line by credit cards and that there will be no additional fees for using this electronic system. It is a voluntary program and those who use this system can file documents in Supreme Court at any hour of the day from anywhere in the world. Since October, commercial, tort and tax cases have been eligible for filing, but now this law will allow every type once details are worked out. This is an important step forward toward increasing efficiency for the Clerk's Office and our customers," Hochul concluded.
