Erie County Clerk Proposes Expansion of
Auto Bureau to ECC South Campus
Trustees to Consider Proposal at Meeting on August 29
Stating that the overwhelming popularity of the West Seneca satellite necessitates another Southtown location, Erie County Clerk Kathy Hochul has initiated a plan to bring auto bureau services to the ECC South Campus.
"People forget that during the budget crisis, we were left with only one Auto Bureau in Cheektowaga to serve the entire County. Both the Northtowns and Southtowns locations were left unfunded and permanently closed. That was unacceptable to then County Clerk Dave Swarts and I, and we devised a plan to bring auto bureau satellites into free government space at no additional cost to County taxpayers," said Erie County Clerk Hochul.
After one year of experience at the West Seneca operation behind the library, Hochul says that an additional, larger space is needed to better serve her constituents. The two cashiers handle upwards of 400 customers per day, and the testing area for permits is limited. "I spend a great deal of time at this location helping our customers, and while they truly appreciate the convenience of the location, I am very much aware that more space is needed. That is why I've approached the ECC Administration and Board of Trustees to partner with them to offer services on the South Campus, building on the success we've had with the ECC North satellite in Amherst," said Hochul.
Hochul also noted that the employees, faculty and students of the ECC North location frequently compliment that operation for its convenience, and believes that a satellite at the ECC South campus in Orchard Park near Hamburg would be equally popular.
