County Clerk Announces Auto Bureau Customer Service Call Center Begins September 10

Beginning Monday, September 10, Erie County residents will now be able to call a local number to have auto bureau questions answered. The number is 858-7450 and customer service representatives will be available to answer calls from 8:30 am to 4:15 pm, Monday through Friday when the offices are open.

"As I travel throughout the City of Buffalo and Erie County, I've heard the frustration customers have with calling the 1-800 number at the DMV in Albany. The Albany call center, which I have personally visited, is filled with dedicated staff people, but the volume they deal with is incredible. My objective is to make life a little bit easier for our Erie County residents, and I believe that re-establishing a Customer Service Call Center is a step in that direction," said Erie County Clerk Kathy Hochul.

"While we still have 42 fewer employees at the Auto Bureaus than we did before the 2005 budget crisis, we are doing our best to return some normalcy to the operations. Thus, I am dedicating two employees full-time to answer calls. Depending upon volume, there may be some wait-times, but I ask everyone's patience as we continue our efforts to do more with less," said Hochul.

Another option for information is to check out the County Clerk's website at www.erie.gov/clerk for information regarding locations and hours of operation at the 12 various auto bureau outlets, from the two main offices in Downtown Buffalo and Cheektowaga, to the five daily satellite offices and the five mobile sites throughout the County. Customers are encouraged to use the "Clickable Map" on the homepage to see the auto bureaus closest to their community.
