Erie County leads New York State in issuing Enhanced Drivers Licenses

At One Month Mark, Over 1300 residents have taken advantage of new EDL program

Erie County Clerk Kathy Hochul announced today that Erie County leads New York State in issuing Enhanced Driver's Licenses (EDL's) after the first full month of sales. Erie County residents have been issued 1367 of the EDL's which represents more than 33% of the total issued from September 16th to October 16th throughout New York State including New York City.

Hochul reminded motorists that although the Enhanced Driver's Licenses are not required until June 2009, many people are taking advantage of shorter lines at the Auto Bureaus which are expected to increase as the deadline gets closer. "I recommend that everyone interested in applying for an EDL log on to our website at www.erie.gov/clerk and click on the Enhanced License icon" said Hochul. "This will ensure that County residents know the locations and hours to apply for EDL's, as well as the proper original documentation needed to complete the application".

Erie County Clerk Kathy Hochul will be available in her office at 92 Franklin Street, First Floor Friday October 17th at 10am for additional comment on the program.
