National YMCA Active Older Adults Day is Thursday, May 27. Six branches of the YMCA of Greater Buffalo will host a free open house from 1:00 - 3:30 PM for everyone age 55 and over. The YMCA of Greater Buffalo serves over 46,000 people at eight branches across Western New York; 18 percent are age 55 and above.
The U.S. Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health states that older adults attain significant health benefits from even moderate exercise. YMCA programs are also a way to stay active, meet new people of all ages and have fun!
On May 27, the YMCA will have presentations from various senior service organizations, health screenings, nutrition information, games and a sampling of YMCA programs, including aerobics, aquatics, weight-training, the "SilverSneakers Fitness Program" and even dancing!
For a list of activities, visit the YMCA Web site (http://www.buffaloymca.org) or call:
Senior Services will have a representative from X to X and will issue their Photo identification cards.
