BREAKING NEWS!!

HEAP will be mailing applications to households that received Regular HEAP assistance in the 2008-2009 Program year. This initiative is to assist specific households prior to November 2nd. It is strongly suggested that you complete and mail the application back as soon as possible to allow the departments to determine eligibility. HEAP will notify these specific households and their utility company of possible approval of benefits on or after November 2, 2009.

The HEAP office opens NOVEMBER 2, 2009 for both Regular and Emergency assistance.

HEAP is a federally funded assistance program designed to help eligible households with the costs of heating their homes. HEAP is administered locally by the Departments of Social and Senior Services. Social Services is responsible for certification of the temporary assistance/food stamps and non temporary assistance/food stamps under 60 population of Erie County. Senior Services is responsible for certification of and outreach to the NTA/FS, Senior Citizen (60+) population of Erie County and certain segments of the disabled population of all ages. Each season, Senior Services also conducts HEAP interviews for all segments of the population at various outreach locations throughout the county, beginning in January.

An early outreach mailing of applications for Regular HEAP assistance was conducted by the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance to all households that received HEAP assistance during the 2008-09 season, in which the head of household is receiving Temporary Assistance or Food Stamps prior to September 12th, 2009 the household will receive a regular HEAP benefit.
