The Office of Child Support was created in 1975 as part of Federal Legislation amending the Social Security Act. The Erie County Office of Child Support Enforcement [OCSE] is part of a Federal, State and Local effort to collect child support from legally responsible parents.
Purpose:
The purpose of the Office of Child Support Enforcement is threefold;
Goal:
The Erie County Department of Social Services continually seeks to improve our methods of collecting child support. Support from absent parents improves the lives of their children, and reduces the burden of support shared by taxpayers and single parents. These goals are becoming more important as strained State and Federal budgets have reduced or eliminated many social support programs.
