Carbon Monoxide Awareness Program

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless, potentially dangers gas. If inhaled in large quantities for a prolonged period of time, it can cause unconsciousness, brain damage and death. In fact, CO has been the known cause of over 250 deaths and thousands of cases of non-fatal poisoning in the United States each year. The Erie County Office for Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) - Carbon Monoxide Awareness Program offers a variety of services which provide information and guidance to Erie County residents to reduce their risk to CO poisoning. CO Safety Tip
Remember even during the warm weather months you and your family can still be at risk of CO poisoning. Sources of CO other than your furnace include gas hot water heaters, gas stoves, and gas or charcoal grills. Take advantage of the summer time availability of qualified heating contractors, and have an through inspection of your home and all its appliances done.
