The Erie County Office for Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) - Radon Awareness Program provides services to meet the needs of citizens, home buyers and sellers, real estate professionals, and new home construction companies. Trained staff is able to assist you whether you are interested in purchasing a radon testing kit, need information on radon disclosure when buying or selling a home, or need information on radon resistant construction techniques.
Erie County works closely with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), the National Association of Counties (NACO) and the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) to provide the most up to date and accurate information on national and local radon levels, radon testing protocol and radon testing / mitigation providers.
As of March 1, 1998, the standard Erie County Residential Real Estate Contract includes a radon disclosure clause. This revision requires disclosure by the seller of whether the property has been tested for radon, and for the purchaser, the option for radon testing as part of the home inspection.
