Effective December 10, 2009, New York State has suspended the requirement that the H1N1 influenza vaccine be restricted to the CDC’s initial priority groups.  Effective immediately, the 2009 H1N1 vaccine can now be administered to anyone who wishes to receive it and for whom it is not contra-indicated.  Health care providers with limited supply of vaccine are still encouraged to target this vaccine to the priority groups.  At the same time, if vaccine is available, providers should also vaccinate those who are not in the priority groups but want the vaccine.

According to the ECDOH, the best place to receive vaccination is from your health care provider.  Please check with your health care provider regarding their vaccine availability.  If your health care provider will not be providing H1N1 vaccination, the following website may be helpful to you.

NOTE: Your own doctor may be your best option for getting seasonal flu vaccine. Many health care providers have received supplies of seasonal flu vaccine, while other providers are still waiting to receive their vaccines. Providers will continue to receive vaccines in the coming weeks, and vaccination for seasonal flu will continue through December, in time to provide protection against the seasonal flu.

The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) does not plan to hold immunization clinics to administer seasonal flu vaccine.  Check with your health care provider to see if he/she will be offering their patients the seasonal flu vaccine. There may also be other sources of seasonal flu vaccine available locally, such as pharmacies and other retail outlets
