The Town of Lancaster Highway Department maintains 67 miles of Town Roads. During the winter, the Highway Department is under contract with Erie County for 16 miles of county roads in Lancaster for snow and ice removal.
The Town of Lancaster Highway Department is primarily responsible for snow and ice removal, paving and brush pick-up. We also work with the Town Engineering Department on drainage work such as cross-country ditching and pipe installation.
When placing brush out for pick-up, branches are not to exceed 8 feet. Cut ends are to be facing the street and piled as neatly as possible. If you require a brush pick up, please call the Highway Department and you will be placed on a list. Roots and stumps are picked up usually once a week and should be placed in a separate pile, as they cannot go into the chipper. The Town of Lancaster Highway Department does not pick up grass clippings, waste products, railroad ties, leaves in garbage bags or building debris.
During the fall, our leaf picker will pick up leaves. Leaves should be raked to the curb. There is no need to call for this service as our leaf picker goes street by street throughout the Town until the first snowfall.
