January 8, 2004DEMOCRATS REGAIN MAJORITY
Holt & Marinelli Named to Top Two Posts
At their first regular session for 2004 the Erie County Legislature reorganized with Democrats reclaiming the now 15-member body. At the top of the agenda Legislators voted to appoint leadership, naming George A. Holt, Jr. (D-Buffalo) as their Chairman and Lynn Marinelli (D-Buffalo/Tonawanda) to the Majority Leader position.
"I thank my colleagues for their faith in my leadership," said Chairman Holt. "Buffalo and Erie County can no longer afford divided representation. I am hopeful that with communication, cooperation and compromise, Federal, State, County and local leaders on both sides of the aisle will work together on issues that will make a difference in our communities."
Chairman Holt becomes the second African-American to hold the Legislature's top seat. Marinelli also becomes the second female in the history of the Legislature to serve as Majority Leader.
"With issues ranging from economic development, service delivery, and Medicaid reform to protecting the fiscal stability of Buffalo and Erie County we have plenty of work immediately," said Majority Leader Marinelli. "This Democratic caucus is ready for the challenges and to accomplish results for true regional advancement."
