COUNTY TO CONDUCT TESTING FOR LIFEGUARD POSITIONS
Erie County Legislator Daniel M. Kozub (D-Lackawanna) is announcing that testing for lifeguard positions at the County beaches will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 19 and 26, at the Cazenovia Indoor Pool, 626 Abbott Road, Buffalo.
"I am pleased to announce that county beaches will be open every weekend this summer and possibly some weekdays," Legislator Kozub said. "As a result, we will soon be hiring young women and young men to work as county lifeguards from the end of June through early September, at a pay rate of $8.16 per hour."
To qualify as a lifeguard, people applying must have current certification in: lifeguard training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer, any American Red Cross First Aid Certification and the Waterfront Lifeguard Module. Applicants must also have 20/40 vision uncorrected and be available for both days of testing.
The lifeguard test will include: a 400-yard swim for time (goggles will be allowed and any turn is acceptable); a 50-yard swim for time, again with any turn acceptable; an underwater swim, a minimum of 25 yards and a maximum of 509 yards; the ability to demonstrate selected lifeguarding techniques and to demonstrate two minutes of adult CPR.
All certification must be completed at the time of hiring and must be valid through September 4, 2007. For more information, contact the Office of Erie County Parks Commissioner Andy Sedita at 858-8355.
