LEGISLATOR KENNEDY ANNOUNCES GRAND OPENING OF CORNELL UNIVERSITY’S COOPERATIVE EXTENSION PROGRAM

Program is Extension of Erie County’s Eat Smart New York Program

(February 1, 2008, Buffalo, NY) Legislator Tim Kennedy announces the opening of Cornell University’s Cooperative Extension of Erie County’s Eat Smart New York Program. The satellite office is now open, and is located at 200 Cazenovia Street at St. Simon’s Church.

Eat Smart New York (ESNY) is a nutrition education program intended to encourage limited income families with children to adopt healthy nutrition practices through a series of nutrition education lessons. Classes will be conducted at the Cazenovia Street office or at local community sites in the area. The one-hour classes are fun, interactive and demonstrate helpful skills to stretch your food dollar. Every participant will take part in a free nutrition giveaway and will have a chance to sample a tasty, healthy snack. Once the program is completed, participants will receive a graduation certificate.

Participants enrolled in Eat Smart New York classes have reported significant changes in their eating habits. Kennedy stated, "This Cornell Cooperative Extension Program in South Buffalo is a perfect example of our taxpayer dollars being spent directly in our neighborhood. I applaud their efforts to promote healthy living in South Buffalo and throughout Western New York."
