LEGISLATOR KENNEDY ANNOUNCES BOTANICAL GARDENS EXPANSION AND IMPROVEMENTS

Mayor Byron Brown, Erie County Executive Chris Collins and Erie County Legislator Tim Kennedy today announced an agreement between the City of Buffalo and Erie County, which will provide for a 50-year easement of approximately 3.14 acres of city-owned property adjacent to the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens.

Erie County, which has owned and operated the Botanical Gardens sine 1981, sought the easement to facilitate an eight-year, $9 million capital improvement program for the Botanical Gardens. The improvement program includes the expansion of the gardens and related permanent improvements, as well as a new parking lot, on the existing County-owned Botanical Gardens property and on the adjacent City-owned South Park property.

"The Improvements Project will greatly enhance the beautiful and internationally known Botanical Gardens as a world class cultural and recreational attraction in our City," stated Mayor Brown. "Legislator Tim Kennedy should be commended for his work on this project. By helping to create a partnership between the City of Buffalo and the County of Erie, Legislator Kennedy has once again led the charge and taken this community in the right direction." Kennedy thanked the Mayor and the County Executive for ensuring that the vision for this regional landmark will finally be realized. "Through this project, both Mayor Brown and County Executive Collins have demonstrated their commitment to moving this community forward. This regional gem will now get the investment that the taxpayers desire."
