Legislator Kennedy Says No More Cuts
His reaction comes from a newly found budget deficit
Despite the recent findings of an undetermined budget gap, Legislator Timothy M. Kennedy (D-South Buffalo) remains strongly against any more cuts to balance the budget.
“We cannot continue to punish our citizens by cutting their services to balance our budget,” Kennedy says, “There is no more room to cut from services and departments who are already scarcely operational after recent cuts. We cannot continue to put this county’s inability to manage itself on the backs of its citizens by cutting their essential services.”
Kennedy stated that cutting additional services to counter the recent budget gap would only further affect the citizens of the Second Legislative District. Majority of the legislator’s constituents reside in the city of Buffalo and rely a great deal on the county’s services.
Legislator Kennedy stated the legislature is still continuing to receive conflicting numbers making this process hard to resolve. “We must receive accurate numbers so we can assess how to resolve this crisis and move on,” Kennedy stated.
Legislator Kennedy was recently a co-sponsor of a resolution that called for New York State Comptroller Allen G. Hevesi to come to Buffalo and audit the finances of Erie County.
Kennedy hopes the auditing results from New York State Comptroller Hevesi will reveal the county’s accurate budget deficit numbers so he and his fellow legislators can begin to set Erie County residents at ease.
