Legislator Kennedy Helps to Re-Tree South Buffalo
Free Trees Available for Planting
Recently Legislator Tim Kennedy joined forces with Devon Donovan, owner of Chique Boutique and President of the South Buffalo Chamber of Commerce, and Justin Booth, Director of Environmental Initiatives for the Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo, in order to obtain numerous free trees for the South Buffalo area. The new trees were graciously donated by Re-Tree WNY, a group established to re-forest areas which were destroyed by The October Storm of 2006.
Re-Tree WNY is an eclectic group of professionals who have a passion for the Greater Buffalo area. Established on November 3, 2006, Re-Tree WNY's mission is to replace the approximately 30,000 trees in Western New York which were damaged or destroyed during the October Storm.
Because Re-Tree WNY is receiving matching funds from the City of Buffalo, all donated trees must be planted on public property. In addition, anyone interested in a tree must attend one of two informational meetings on how to plant trees. The first meeting will take place on April 5th at 1:00 PM at the Park School in Amherst. A second meeting will be held on April 15th at 2:00 PM at the Parkside Lodge in Delaware Park. Re-Tree WNY's planting dates are scheduled for May 3rd and 4th.
Legislator Tim Kennedy stated, "With the help of Devon Donovan, a young entrepreneur who truly cares for this community, and a public/private partnership with Re-Tree WNY, the South Buffalo Community is making great strides to recover the trees that were lost during the destructive October Storm of 2006."
This program has already been met with an overwhelming response from the community. Because of the response, those who do not receive a tree this spring will be automatically registered to receive one in the fall. For any information regarding this program or to receive a free tree, please call Legislator Tim Kennedy's office at 824-6180.
