Legislator Kennedy Warns of Approaching Closing Date for HEAP
Legislator Kennedy reminds residents that Tuesday, May 15, 2007, is designated as the closing date for both regular and emergency benefit components of the 2006-2007 Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).
"There is still time to take advantage of this beneficial program," said Kennedy, "but be assured that the program's closure date is final."
Kennedy said the length of the HEAP season is regulated by New York State. In order for the County to receive reimbursement for assistance paid to constituents, all applications must be filed by the specified date.
Mail-in applications for Regular HEAP postmarked on/or before May 15th will be accepted and processed. Applicants with a shut off notice needing Emergency HEAP must apply in person before the close of business on May 15th.
Any appointments given prior to close of business on May 15th will be honored until all applicants are interviewed. Anyone who is still interested in participating must contact the HEAP Hotline or have their applications postmarked May 15.
Applications are still available at Legislator Kennedy's district office. The office is located at 1928 South Park Avenue and can be reached at 824-6180 if you have any further questions.
If you need assistance completing the HEAP applications you may contact the HEAP hotline at 858-7870. Anyone wishing to know more about the services and information provided by the Department of Senior Services, they should contact Senior Services Information and Assistance at 858-8526, or visit www.erie.gov/depts/seniorservices.
