Legislator Kennedy Welcomes the Erie County Veterans' Outreach Squad
This innovative program appeals to Veterans both young and old, and their families
On Saturday, May 10th, 2008, Legislator Tim Kennedy will welcome the Erie County Veterans' Outreach Squad to the Buffalo Irish Center. This innovative program, led by Director of Veterans' Services Patrick Welch, will be the first of its kind offered to the residents of Erie County.
The Veterans' Outreach Squad is comprised of a few different entities. Representatives from the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), United States Department of Veterans Affairs and 211 Services will join the Erie County Office of Veterans' Services in bringing important information directly to veterans located within the second legislative district. Additionally, Mayor Byron Brown and Assemblyman Mark Schroeder will be on hand at this specific event to welcome and honor those veterans in attendance
According to Patrick Welch, "This program is much different from those offered previously." The presentation will inform veterans of the benefits they deserve, and go on to explain innovative opportunities for veterans that include networking and business start-up programs. For the younger generation of veterans, financial assistance for school will be discussed. "This veterans' outreach squad will also focus on the families of veterans and the benefits they are entitled to," stated Welch. "It is important that those who served and their families know what services are available, and can take full advantage of these programs once their back home." Welch went on to say, "I am grateful to have worked with Legislator Tim Kennedy on a project like this. Tim truly cares about veterans, and was the first to come to me asking about bringing this great program to his district."
"With recent conflicts producing more soldiers and consequently more veterans, it is my priority to make sure that these recent veterans return home and are aware of the services and benefits they and their families have earned," stated Kennedy. "Additionally, we must never forget about our older generation of veterans. By signing them up with the VA Hospital, many problems that may otherwise arise in the future will be prevented." Kennedy went on to recognize the diligent efforts of Patrick Welch and the Department of Veterans' Services. "I am incredibly honored to be able to team up with the Department of Veterans' Services to bring the benefits and programs typically offered only out of our downtown office building directly to the neighborhoods, and to those who have earned them. This program promises to be beneficial, and all in attendance will leave having learned something new."
The Veterans' Outreach Squad will be coming to the Buffalo Irish Center, located at 245 Abbott Road, Buffalo, NY 14220, on Saturday, May 10th, 2008, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. A complimentary breakfast will be served, and all veterans and their families are welcomed to attend. To R.S.V.P. for this event, please call Legislator Tim Kennedy's office at 824-6180.
