In a collaborative effort, Legislator Kennedy, Erie County Parks Department, the YMCA and the City of Buffalo were able to successfully identify the need for parents in the South Buffalo area to have all day programming for their children.

"Working with the YMCA we were able to demonstrate a need for this beneficial program," Kennedy said, "as a result we have successfully secured a great service for the parents and children of South Buffalo."

"I would like to thank the YMCA for their dedication to South Buffalo," Kennedy said, "I would also like to thank NYS Assemblyman Mark Schroeder. Schroeder was key in bringing YMCA to the table during the needs assessment and comprehensive planning process South Buffalo representatives participated in last fall."

The program will be administered by the YMCA utilizing their extensive expertise in running summer camp programs. Currently, the YMCA operates 18 locations across Erie and Niagara County, serving over 1100 children a day throughout the summer. The Cazenovia Pool site was chosen to host the program because of the resources in and around Cazenovia Park.

The summer day camp program will run from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with extended programming starting at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m. The daily schedule will consist of structured sports games, arts, gym games, team building activities, weekly field trips and recreational swimming.

All activities are designed age-group specific and will be administered by trained YMCA staff. Staff will receive three days of training prior to camp and also attend YMCA child abuse prevention training. The site will be regulated by the New York State Health Department.

YMCAs are the largest providers of child care in the United States, operating nearly 10,000 child care sites across the country, which provide high-quality, and affordable care to more than 500,000 children. YMCAs also serve nearly 10 million children under the age of 18 through activities such as camping, sports and after school programs. YMCAs are the largest employers of teenagers in the country.
