Kennedy calls for South Park CSX Bridge to be refurbished
In a recent letter to US Senator Charles Schumer and NYS Assemblyman Paul Tokasz, Erie County Legislator Tim Kennedy requested that the CSX owned bridge on South Park Avenue be included in their refurbishing requests.
Recently, US Senator Charles Schumer and NYS Assemblyman Paul Tokasz have criticized the CSX Corporation for the condition of two of the railroad bridges located in Cheektowaga calling them "eyesores". They requested that the CSX Corporation own up to their civic responsibilities and paint the bridges.
Kennedy joined the argument requesting South Park Avenue's bridge also be included in their request. The bridge located on South Park Avenue is dilapidated and is in need of restoration.
"The lack of regard from CSX to keep their bridges in respectable condition says it all," Kennedy said. "This is nothing more that pure disregard and disrespect for our citizens and their quality of life."
Kennedy stressed the location alone should be enough incentive to put pressure on CSX. The avenue is a main thoroughfare and business strip frequented by many commuters from downtown Buffalo to the surrounding suburbs. He stated the distraction caused from the bridge takes away from the wonderful attractions South Buffalo is offering.
"The location of this bridge is within eyesight of area attractions such as Our Lady of Victory Basilica, Olmsted's South Park and the beautiful Botanical Gardens." Kennedy said. "This bridge tarnishes neighborhood and should be addressed immediately."
Kennedy said he would continue to pursue this issue with Government leaders and the CSX Corporation.
