South Park Renaissance Named To Lead Avenue's Revitalization

Erie County Legislator Tim Kennedy announced the newly formed coalition called South Park Renaissance that will head up the revitalization efforts for South Park Avenue. This group is a collaboration of residents, business owners, community groups and government officials working together in a focused effort to promote and improve the South Park Avenue commercial strip.

The "South Park Renaissance" organization will mirror what Forever Elmwood organization has done for the Elmwood Avenue business strip. They will provide beautification efforts, promotion of the Avenue and act as a liaison to government to aid in cleaning up South Park Avenue.

Legislator Kennedy is joined in this effort by Congressman Brian Higgins, Assemblyman Mark Schroeder, Mayor Byron Brown and Councilman Michael Kearns.

Several local businesses and the Greater South Buffalo Chamber of Commerce have already signed on as partners in the effort as well as the community organizations South Buffalo Alive and Goin' South.

Kennedy said the group would be reaching out to residents, businesses, community organizations and other government officials in order to promote and accomplish the organization's agenda.

The group although brand new, has already progress through recent efforts to obtain over 25 trees that will be planted on the avenue this fall.

"These trees will signal a new beginning and focus on South Park Avenue," Kennedy said, "I would like to thank Councilman Kearns for his efforts in approving these trees. This is another demonstration of positive results when community leaders and elected officials work together."

For more information on the South Park Renaissance or to join the coalition please call legislator Tim Kennedy's district office at 824-6180.
