Legislator Kennedy and Volunteers Successfully Re-Tree Parts of South Buffalo
On Sunday, May 4th, 2008, over 40 volunteers joined Legislator Tim Kennedy at Morgan Park in an effort to re-tree parts of South Buffalo. In about two hours, 40 plus volunteers worked together and managed to plant over 60 trees throughout the community.
A majority of the trees were planted in Morgan Park, an area which has benefited from the tireless efforts of South Buffalo Alive. The remaining trees were planted in the medians on streets such as Harding, Culver, Ridgewood and Coolidge. Additionally, trees were also planted along Choate and McKinley Parkway.
"I would again like to thank everyone who came out for this event," stated Legislator Kennedy. "It was wonderful to see our community advocates working together with our younger citizens in order to beautify this community. By combining youth and experience, much was achieved in a very short period of time." Kennedy went on to mention the various groups that came together for this event. "In addition to members from South Buffalo Alive, The Greater South Buffalo Chamber of Commerce and volunteers from Assemblyman Mark Schroeder's office, students from Timon and Mount Mercy gave up their free time to re-tree our neighborhoods. Re-Tree Western New York and the City of Buffalo also deserve a great deal of credit for organizing a program like this which is so valuable to our community."
Due to the success of this first planting, a second planting date is currently in the works for the fall. If you would like to have a tree planted in your area, or volunteer to help plant the next round of trees, please call Legislator Kennedy's office at 824-6180.
