Legislator Kennedy, United Way and HSBC team up to benefit Valley Community Center

In an effort made possible by Legislator Kennedy's office and the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County, on Wednesday, June 28, 2006, HSBC bank will be volunteering 69 of its employees to aid the Valley Community Center in various clean-up efforts in the neighborhood.

Working together the United Way and Legislator Kennedy acquired HSBC bank to carry out annual house keeping duties the Valley Community Center accomplishes on an annual basis throughout the Valley.

"This union of public, private and non-profit sectors coming together to carry out philanthropic deeds benefiting areas in need is a perfect example of the great possibilities we can achieve when we all work together," Legislator Kennedy said, "We welcome HSBC bank and its employees with open arms."

The HSBC volunteers are expected to participate in various projects that include landscaping, planting flowers and bushes, repainting buildings, riverbank clean-up in Smith Park, mural painting on bridge walls, mowing, weeding and various other projects.

HSBC bank approached the United Way for community project ideas to continue their long-term commitment to community involvement and interaction. Each year HSBC bank supports communities in which they operate through volunteering employees and donations.

"Our people are our greatest strength, they make HSBC's success possible," said Cynthia Harrington, HSBC Vice President of PFS Project Management. "They are also members of the communities in which they live and work. We encourage our staff to share their skills and realize their full potential as citizens by engaging in local community projects."

"Around the world, our staff at all levels are supporting projects in their local communities and raise funds for causes close to their hearts," Harrington said.

Legislator Kennedy's office facilitated meetings and acquired supplies to make this event possible. Aside from its volunteers, HSBC donated the mulch, flowers and all food for this event. Keep America Beautiful was responsible for lending majority of the tools for volunteers to complete the tasks.

Kennedy plans to continue to build relationships with the United Way and HSBC bank in an effort to promote more volunteer opportunities within all neighborhoods in his second legislative district.
