Flag Flies High Over Tyler Park Once Again
Last week as a result of the Buffalo Fire Department's gracious assistance, Tyler Park's vacant flagpole saw the return of the American Flag.
The previous flag at Tyler Park, located at South Park Avenue and Como Street, was damaged and removed two years ago. Through the coordination by Karen Ridzik, a long-time volunteer at the park, Erie County Legislator Tim Kennedy donated the new flag and rope, and the Buffalo Fire Department was contacted to hang the flag.
"Tyler Park is a beautiful park because of those who invest their time and energies to keep it that way," Legislator Kennedy said, "I applaud Karen on her great work to see this project to fruition."
The park was dedicated as a memorial to former Erie County Sheriff Frank W. Tyler in 2004. Since then many volunteers have invested countless hours to maintain the parks landscaping and grounds.
"A special thank you is in order to Karen Rydzik, the Buffalo Fire Department's Lt. Bowers (Hollywood Station), Lt. Barry (Seneca/Southside Station), and other firefighters who helped erect the flag, volunteer Marge Ryan from South Buffalo Alive, the Sheriff's Badge & Shield club, Dennis Long, and many others," Kennedy said, "All of these people have assisted in some way to maintain the parks aesthetics and ensure its longevity. We owe them a tremendous amount of gratitude for their efforts in increasing the quality of life for our neighborhood."
If you would like to volunteer your time in maintaining various gardens throughout South Buffalo call Legislator Kennedy's office at 824-6180.
