Legislator Kennedy and Attorney General Cuomo's Office present a 'Know Your Rights" Home Ownership Program

Legislator Tim Kennedy and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's office will hold a presentation on home improvements, specifically regarding ways to avoid contracting pitfalls, for residents and homeowners in the Village of Sloan on Friday, August 28, 2009 from 12pm – 1pm at the Sloan Fire Hall, 55 Gates Street, Buffalo, NY 14212. The session is geared specifically to Western New York property owners and will focus on tips on how to be a responsible homeowner.

The presentation will focus on how to protect yourself from home improvement fraud and getting to know your rights, which includes your right to cancel a contract and your right to safeguard payments. The presenter will also discuss tips on what to do before you hiring a contractor. The hour long program open to the public will demonstrate and encourage participants to visit our new website – www.nyknowyourcontractor.com. The website offers vital information and tips that can be used to select a reputable contractor and also provides helpful links to statewide or local agencies should assistance be necessary.

"I am very pleased to join with Attorney General Cuomo's office to bring this wealthy of information to homeowners in the Village of Sloan and throughout Erie County," Kennedy stated. "This is another demonstration of Attorney General Cuomo's dedication to the people of Western New York and his grassroots efforts to bring government services directly to the taxpayers."
