Kennedy, South Park Avenue Revitalization Committee Discuss Lighting
On Wednesday, November 11th, 2008, Legislator Kennedy welcomed members of the South Park Avenue Revitalization Committee to Sorrento Headquarters to discuss the $2.3 million project set to take place along South Park Avenue in 2009.
As members of the City of Buffalo's Department of Public Works introduced consultants to the packed crowd, residents and business owners were informed of the important tasks that the committee would face in the upcoming months.
"The greatest part of this $2.3 million project is that it will be driven by the community stakeholders," stated Legislator Tim Kennedy. "Earlier this year I made it a priority to walk door to door along South Park Avenue, informing business owners of the exciting project and their role in it. That outreach is now paying dividends with so many community leaders participating in the redevelopment project." Kennedy went on to say that to date, the committee's membership has risen significantly; however, more residents are always welcome. "I would like everyone in this community to play an integral role in the decision making process," stated Kennedy.
The committee's first task involves choosing the lighting which will be placed along South Park Avenue. At the most recent meeting, stakeholders were presented with numerous options and are expected to come back to the next meeting with a choice after doing the necessary research.
Following the decision regarding the lights along South Park Avenue, residents will be asked for their input regarding crosswalks, benches, trash dispensers and many other important aspects of the streetscape included in the revitalization project.
