Erie County Legislator Michael H. Ranzenhofer (R-Clarence) announced that he has secured $2,500 in funding to help the Harris Hill Volunteer Fire Company purchase a Thermal Imaging Camera.
"Our volunteer firefighters have committed themselves to putting our safety first," said Ranzenhofer. "It is important that we give them the tools they need to protect our community, and the new Thermal Imaging Camera is a vital piece of that effort."
The Thermal Imaging Camera is a state-of-the-art device utilized by fire companies to find persons caught in fire emergency situations. Harris Hill Fire Chief Michael Schreiber explained that the camera uses infrared light to pick up body heat, even in the presence of flames.
The purchase of the Thermal Imaging Camera follows an eight-month fundraising effort through the Harris Hill Volunteer Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary.
"If this new equipment is used to save even just one life, then it is a worthwhile investment," added Ranzenhofer. "I applaud the men and women of the Harris Hill Volunteer Fire Company for their on-going efforts to protect us from fire, and hope that this technology will meet their life-saving needs."
