Erie County Legislator Michael H. Ranzenhofer (R-Clarence) and his colleagues in county government have recently partnered with Wal-Mart of Western New York to announce that free Phone Cards are available to families of Erie County armed service personnel.
"All the men and women so bravely defending this nation deserve the opportunity to touch base with their families and catch up on their latest news and hear about the people that love them," said Legislator Ranzenhofer. "These soldiers are brave and stalwart and deserve to be commended and these phone cards are but one small way of doing that."
Legislator Ranzenhofer pointed out that this program was made possible through the generous cooperation of Wal-Mart Stores of Western New York and their donation of one hundred and thirty five 60 minute phone cards. While supplies last, these phone cards are available for Erie County families who have relatives serving in any branch of the United States armed services.
Wal-Mart of Western New York Representative, Joe Zahciaria expressed his corporation's pleasure in collaborating on the phone card donation. "Wal-Mart has always been a family oriented corporation and it is our great honor to support the American men and women serving our country around the world. We are proud to join with the Minority Members of the Legislature and the Department of Veteran Services in providing these calling cards to Erie County families."
In presenting cards to armed service family members in attendance, Erie County Director of Veteran Services, Louis R. Palma explained the process involved in obtaining the calling cards. "All a family has to do is come to our office, suite number 1659 in the Rath Building, and show proof that they have a family member serving overseas. Once we've verified their status, we will issue them a calling card, as long as the supply lasts."
Supplies of phone cards are limited to 135 and will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis. For more information on the "Call Home" program contact Lou Palma at the Erie County Office of Veteran's Affairs 858-6363.
