RANZENHOFER ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR FARM EQUIPMENT "LEMON LAW"
Erie County Legislator Michael H. Ranzenhofer (R-Clarence) announced recently that the Erie County Legislature has approved a resolution in support of pending New York State legislation that would allow farmers protection on equipment they purchase.
"Very few states have a policy in place to protect farmers in their purchases of equipment, which most often carry significant cost," said Ranzenhofer. "New York is one that does not. The agricultural industry is so dependent on the effectiveness of its machinery that I feel that protection should be granted."
The pending State legislation (S. 6581 and A. 9510), known as the Farm Equipment "Lemon Law," would put into place a statute allowing farmers protection on any equipment they purchase for one year from the date the equipment is delivered. During this grace period, farmers could get their "lemon" replaced or money refunded if it cannot be fixed within a reasonable amount of time or if the equipment is out of service for more than one month.
Ranzenhofer pointed out that currently six other states cover farm machinery under their "Lemon Laws."
"My colleagues and I are committed to creating a viable atmosphere for farmers in Erie County," added Ranzenhofer. "Finding ways to protect their rights as consumers helps to give them a better opportunity for prosperity in our local agricultural industry."
