Erie County Legislator Michael H. Ranzenhofer (R-Newstead) met with representatives of Erie County's Department of Public Works, representatives of Fisher Associates and residents of the Town of Newstead and Village of Akron on Wednesday night, November 19, to discuss the on-going Parkview Drive Bridge project. Approximately 70 residents attended the session, which was held at the Newstead Library.
"It is clear that many residents in Akron and Newstead feel passionately about the future of the Parkview Drive Bridge," said Ranzenhofer, who serves as Chairman of the Legislature's Economic Development Committee. "Residents' input will go a long way in determining which course of action to follow in the reconstruction or replacement of the Bridge."
Fisher Associates is the consultant on the Parkview Drive Bridge project. They presented seven (7) alternatives for proceeding with the project, which were available at the public meeting for review.
Residents' comments focused on restoring functional use of this important piece of Village infrastructure, ensuring that well-maintained walkways will be available on both sides of the bridge and road, and that the historical aesthetic of the Bridge is preserved.
"Since the Parkview Drive Bridge is such an important part of both our infrastructure and our quality of life, it is important that residents have the full opportunity to comment on the project," Ranzenhofer continued. "For the next thirty (30) days, residents can contact my District Office to give their comments and concerns about the plans for the Bridge."
Residents interested in seeing the alternative plans for the Parkview Drive Bridge or in offering comments can contact Legislator Ranzenhofer's District Office, 8860 Main Street (across from Jubilee Markets), 631-8695. All comments will be forwarded to the Department of Public Works and Fisher Associates.
