Konst introduces Local Law to set Term Limit for County Executive
Erie County Legislator Kathy Konst along with fellow Legislators Cynthia Lockear and Michele Iannello introduced the second in a series of Local Laws that reform county government.
The Local Law that was introduced on Friday sets a three 4-year term limits for the office of the County Executive, or twelve years.
Konst stated, "We felt that we needed to introduce term limits because the residents of the county have requested such a change. And we wanted to give them the opportunity to decide."
She went on to say, "The Charter Review Commission has reviewed the Erie County Charter and they have made many good suggestions but, we were disappointed that term limits were not recommended in their proposal."
Konst concluded, "By setting term limits on elected offices it guarantees that new people with fresh ideas will have the opportunity to run for office in the county. It will also limit the amount of influence special interest groups have on our local government."
For this measure to be put in place in Erie County, the Legislature will need to pass the Local Law and then it will go to voters in the form of a referendum on the November ballot.
