KONST ANNOUNCES CIVIL SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES FOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADS
County Legislator Kathy Konst (D-Lancaster) is announcing that several civil service exams will be given to qualifying residents Saturday, September 20, with the lists used in the future to fill clerical positions in Erie County government. The application deadline is Wednesday, August 20.
"Some competitive civil service jobs that are very important to the efficient functioning of the Erie County Medical Center and the Erie County Holding Center are open to the public to take an examination," Konst said. "The dispatcher-SPD and administrative control clerk titles will be tested on September 20, as well as the records clerk (Holding Center) title."
Konst reported that the minimum qualifications for the administrative control clerk position, for which there are ten vacancies at ECMC, are graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one year of clerical-receptionist, nursing or hospital aide experience. Completion of a one year or longer post-high school secretarial course which included medical terminology course work may be substituted for the required experience.
"Clearly, many of my constituents have the qualifications for these positions at ECMC," Legislator Konst said. "The other position, dispatcher-SPD, also requires graduation from high school or a GED diploma, with one-year experience in the operation of telecommunication equipment and a computer terminal."
The records clerk (Holding Center) eligible list, once established, may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur in the Sheriff's Department.
"These civil service jobs are important to Erie County providing public health and public safety services in an efficient and cost-effective manner. I encourage my constituents to visit the county website www.erie.gov to learn more about these jobs and others that are available through the competitive civil service'" Konst concluded.
