Erie County Legislature Majority Leader Maria R. Whyte (D-Buffalo) is leading a group of eight Democratic County Legislators in requesting the New York State Thruway eliminate the toll booths on the Niagara Section of the New York State Thruway.

Majority Leader Whyte, Legislature Chairwoman Lynn M. Marinelli and Legislators Timothy Kennedy, Robert Reynolds, Thomas Loughran, George A. Holt, Jr., Thomas Mazur and Cynthia Locklear are sponsoring a resolution seeking the removal of the Ogden and Breckenridge toll booths on the Thruway. The Economic Development Committee, under its chair, Legislator Kennedy, will discuss the measure at an informational meeting Monday, March 27.

“The County Legislature is committed to promoting economic development and protecting taxpayers in Erie County. The 75-cent toll on the Niagara Section of the Thruway is an unfair burden on the people who are traveling through the Niagara Region, particularly the people of the Sixth District, who I represent,” Majority Leader Whyte said. “This toll has a negative impact on residents and business owners, and these tolls must be eliminated.”

Erie County is one of the few New York regions where tolls to drive to work or within city limits exist.
