COUNTY LEGISLATOR WHYTE ANNOUNCES SENIOR SERVICES 'CONNECT,'
STAR ENROLLMENT DAY TO BE HELD SEPTEMBER 8
Erie County Legislature Majority Leader Maria R. Whyte (D-Buffalo) is announcing that an Erie County Department of Senior Services "Connects" outreach program will be held from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Monday, September 8, at the Northwest Buffalo Community Center, 155 Lawn Avenue in Buffalo.
The program is for residents age 60 and older and/or their caregivers, and information and services will be available. A Department of Senior Services representative will offer information about energy assistance programs and care giving issues, and department staffers will issue their photo identification cards, the 62+ Card and the complimentary card for people age 65 and older. This allows card holders to be entitled to reduced Metro bus/rail fares and other vendor discounts.
Legislator Whyte noted that this outreach site will also include a care manager from the Department of Senior Services as well as these organizations: Erie County Department of Veterans Services, Catholic Health Systems, WNY Osteoporosis, the Wise and Wellness Program and others concerning veterans' benefits. A representative from the City of Buffalo's assessor's office will also be present to assist people with STAR applications.
For more information, residents can call Legislator Whyte's District Office at 874-3257 or e-mail Maria.Whyte@erie.gov, or by calling Department of Senior Services Outreach Aid Coordinator Heidi Monin at 858-2022.
