COUNTY LEGISLATOR WHYTE NAMED CO-CHAIR OF FINANCE AND MANAGEMENT, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEES

Erie County Legislature Majority Leader Maria R. Whyte (D-Buffalo) was recently appointed the vice chair of the Finance and Management and the Economic Development Committees.

Legislator Whyte previously served as a member of the Finance and Management Committee, but is now serving for the first time on the Economic Development Committee. Legislature Chair Lynn M. Marinelli made the appointments at last Thursday's session.

"I am very excited to be serving on the Legislature's Economic Development Committee," said Legislator Whyte. "Redevelopment of vacant property and job growth are key issues in my district and I will be working with my colleagues to ensure that this committee will address them." Legislator Whyte added that she is also proud of her appointment as the vice chair of the Finance and Management Committee. "The Finance Committee plays a critically important role in reviewing the proposed budget and making further recommendations. I look forward to working with my colleagues in this new capacity to produce a 2010 county budget that is balanced and equitable to all residents."

Legislator Whyte also serves as the Democratic Majority Leader. She has served as the Majority Leader since January 2006 when she first took office and is the first freshman legislator ever to serve in the post.
