LEGISLATOR GRANT PROMOTES "OPERATION: PROTECT YOUR HOME" FREE MORTGAGE COUNSELING
SEMINAR ON MAY 10, 2008
Erie County Legislator Betty Jean Grant (D-District 7) today introduced a resolution supporting a major public information, outreach and counseling effort to advise homeowners and mortgagees of their rights during the housing crisis that has swept our nation.
"I encourage everyone who is now facing or could be facing a challenge in meeting their mortgage obligations to attend a free seminar to be held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m. at Bennett High School, 2885 Main Street in Buffalo," Grant began. "The seminar will provide one-on-one counseling to assist homeowners in finding alternative solutions to their sub-prime mortgages."
Legislator Grant recognizes the leadership role undertaken by the Honorable Antoine M. Thompson, New York State Senator from the 60th District, in "Operation: Protect Your Home," the outreach effort highlighted by the May 10 Seminar. Joined by fellow State Senators from Western New York, Senator Thompson facilitated the participation of numerous banks and mortgage lenders to help homeowners in our community.
"The purchase of a home by an individual or family is the single largest investment made by our working and middle class families, a source of great pride to them and a benefit to the entire community," Grant continued. "We should do everything possible to help homeowners keep their homes in the face of this national housing crisis. The May 10 Seminar at Bennett High School is an excellent way our community can work together to reduce the number of mortgage foreclosures."
"I encourage my constituents to take advantage of this free opportunity to obtain counseling and, in some cases, renegotiate the terms of their mortgages," Grant concluded.
