LEGISLATOR GRANT, DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND PLANNING ANNOUNCE HAZARDOUS WASTE DAYS

Erie County Legislator Betty Jean Grant (D-Buffalo) is announcing that the Erie County will hold two household hazardous waste drop-off days, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Erie Community College North Campus, Main and Youngs, Amherst, and from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Erie County Community College South Campus located on Southwestern Boulevard in Orchard Park.

The waste collection events, cosponsored by the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning and the Northeast Southtowns Solid Waste Management Board, are offered free to all Erie County residents. Acceptable items for proper disposal include automotive fluids (motor oils, gasoline, antifreeze, brake and transmission fluids), oil-based paints, paint strippers and thinners, spray paints, kerosene, lead-acid and rechargeable batteries, propane tanks or cylinders, pesticides, fertilizers, pool chemicals, and mercury.

Residents must prove that their hazardous materials were household generated. Erie County will not accept computers, automobile tires, appliances, commercial waste, or any industrial wastes at this event. Latex paint will also not be accepted, automotive fluids and oil based paints must be limited to 10 gallons and pesticides are limited to two gallons or 20 pounds.
