LEGISLATOR WROBLEWSKI ANNOUNCES COMMITTEE APPROVAL
OF NEW FIRE TRAINING ACADEMY LIVE BURN BUILDING CONTRACT
The Erie County Legislature Public Safety Committee approved a contract to build a new live burn building at a cost not to exceed $400,000 at its Fire Training Academy in Cheektowaga last week.
This project is part of the $1 million in capital improvements to upgrade the Erie County Fire Training Academy on Broadway in Cheektowaga previously approved by the County Legislature, according to Legislator Timothy M. Wroblewski (D-West Seneca, South Cheektowaga), chairman of the Public Safety Committee.
"Commissioner of Emergency Services Gregory Skibitsky has requested that we proceed with the first phase of capital improvements by replacing the existing Live Burn Tower that shows significant signs of deterioration and is well beyond its useful life, and, as such, has been closed due to safety concerns for training firefighters," Legislator Wroblewski said.
Fire Facilities, Inc., the only manufacturer of live burn building structures to employ the technologically advanced WestTec Insulation system, received the live burn building contract. This system, a proprietary design of Fire Facilities, is designed to provide, industry-wide, the strongest insulation of the structure, up to 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit. Several municipalities and fire agencies in and around Erie County have successfully used these live burn buildings.
"The Public Safety Committee and I believe that our volunteer firefighters deserve the proper, updated equipment necessary not only to protect our homes, businesses and families, but also themselves, as well as be the best trained first responders they can possibly be," Legislator Wroblewski concluded. "This new live burn building will replace an antiquated one and allow the current and future firefighters to properly terrain and continue to protect us 24 hours a day, seven days a week."
