LEGISLATOR WROBLEWSKI LEADS LEGISLATURE IN ACCEPTING GRANTS TO HELP FIGHT DWI
Erie County Legislator Timothy M. Wroblewski (D-West Seneca, South Cheektowaga) led the County Legislature in accepting two grants to support efforts to fight driving while intoxicated at last week's session.
The County Legislature accepted a $56,007 grant from the New York State Traffic Safety Committee to establish a traffic safety program and to fund part-time instructors to make driver safety presentations to high schools in Erie County. No local matching dollars are required for the county to receive this grant.
"This $56,000 state grant will assist us in our fight to make the streets of Erie County safer and help decrease the instance of driving while intoxicated, as well as educate younger drivers," Legislator Wroblewski, Chair of the Public Safety Committee, said.
The second grant accepted by the County Legislature for the county, worth $10,500, was also issued by the New York State Traffic Safety Commission, and will be used to buy and distribute car seats and other materials at child passenger safety awareness events. Again, no local matching dollars are required for the county to receive this grant.
"The $10,500 state grant will allow drivers who are also the parents of younger children to help keep their children safer while driving with them, " Legislator Wroblewski said. "I am glad that the Legislature followed my initiative through the Public Safety Committee and voted to accept these grants."
