COUNTY LEGISLATOR WROBLEWSKI LEADS COMMITTEE APPROVING $50,000 FOR FORENSIC ACCOUNTING SERVICES
Erie County Legislator Timothy M. Wroblewski (D-West Seneca, South Cheektowaga) led the County Legislature's Public Safety Committee in approving $50,000 for forensic accounting services for the District Attorney‘s Office at its recent meeting.
The Public Safety Committee, of which County Legislator Wroblewski serves as chairman, approved transferring $50,000 in unanticipated revenue to fund the outside accounting services to help fight white collar crime.
"District Attorney Frank Sedita has communicated to the committee and me that there is a new trend of crime, white collar crime where people are hacking computers and bank accounts," Legislator Wroblewski said. "The professional prosecutors on his staff are trained as attorneys, and these forensic accounting services can address these new criminal approaches."
"This newer type of crime will not be tolerated. Criminals may think that they are getting savvier, but I won't stand for this, and county legislators and law enforcement officials won't stand for this," Legislator Wroblewski added. "We will continue to work with the District Attorney's Office and the Sheriff's Office to try to prevent these crimes and we will apprehend and prosecute those who do commit these offenses."
According to the resolution approved by the committee, the District Attorney's Office will be able to hire forensic accountants on a case-by-case basis as expert witnesses.
