LEGISLATOR WROBLEWSKI, COUNTY LEGISLATURE APPROVE
ESTABLISHMENT OF DWI CRASH RESPONSE TEAM
Erie County Legislator Timothy M. Wroblewski (D-West Seneca, South Cheektowaga) led the Erie County Legislature in approving assistance to local law enforcers in establishing a DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) Crash Response Team at its recent session.
The program will allow law enforcement professionals to conduct expert crash scene processing that will lead to swifter and more certain punishment of drunken drivers who cause fatal and serious crashes, without increased government funding.
"The funding of the DWI Crash Response Team, will come from $54,800 from the STOP DWI Reserve Account from the 2008 STOP-DWI budget, which is funded 100 percent by fines paid by convicted drunken drivers," Legislator Wroblewski, Chair of the Public Safety Committee, said. "This program will allow law enforcement agencies to work together to help prosecute and convict drunk driving suspects, combining efforts and resources, while having their expenses made whole by those who committed these crimes, the offenders convicted of drunk driving, through fines."
