COUNTY LEGISLATOR WROBLEWSKI DRIVES SUCCESSFUL EFFORT TO APPROVE $3.2 MILLION IN SECURITY GRANTS
Erie County Legislator Timothy M. Wroblewski (D-West Seneca, South Cheektowaga) led the Erie County Legislature in approving the acceptance of three homeland security related grants at last week's session.
Fast action by Legislator Wroblewski, chair of the County Legislature's Public Safety Committee, allowed these grants to be applied for and approved before the end of 2008.
The three grants total about $3.2 million for Erie County to fund several homeland security initiatives, including a $1.5 million state grant to continue implementing a program enhancing the ability of Erie County to manage emergency and disaster programs. A $1.2 million state grant obtained through Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds will also allow the county to manage emergency and disaster programs through the Department of Emergency Services. The third grant, worth $411,000, utilizes New York State Law Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Program funds.
"How Erie County manages and coordinates its responses to emergency situations is a crucial factor for a positive outcome, should any emergency or disaster occur here," Legislator Wroblewski said. "Not only does this action prove our commitment to the safety and protection of Erie County, but this continues my commitment to work with other branches of government in non-partisan manners to address emergency, security and other matters. This is how we should get the job done for taxpayers and residents of Erie County."
