LEGISLATOR IANNELLO CALLS MEETING REGARDING GRAND ISLAND TOLLS JANUARY 17
County Legislator Michele M. Iannello (D-Kenmore) is partnering with Legislator Timothy Kennedy, Chair of the County Legislature's Economic Development Committee, to host an informational meeting regarding the effects of the New York State Thruway toll increase on businesses located on Grand Island at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, in the Legislature Chambers, 4th floor, 92 Franklin Street, Buffalo.
Legislator Iannello, along with the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce, are responding to the many calls each received from local business persons concerned about the recent increase from 75 cents to one $1 imposed on both the North and South Grand Island Bridges.
"The more information and more data we can gather concerning the adverse effect on the economy, the stronger our case will be to present to the Thruway Authority for removal of the tolls," Legislator Iannello said. "We have already submitted the argument that it is a double tax and there are other sources of funding to maintain the Grand Island portion of the I-90. This has fallen on deaf ears."
Those in attendance will include the Town of Grand Island elected officials, members of the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce and the Grand Island Economic Development Committee. State Assemblyman Hoyt and State Senator Antoine Thompson will also participate.
