Iannello - District 10 May 23, 2007 LEGISLATOR IANNELLO RESPONDS TO TAX PROPOSAL In response to the County Executive's recommendation that 3% of the County Property Tax be dedicated to Erie County cultural organizations, Legislator Iannello had the following statement: "I have always been a strong supporter of the culturals, both personally, and as Chairperson of the Community Enrichment Committee of the Erie County Legislature. I agree that the cultural organizations and tourism are a major factor in the future of our economic well-being. I, too, have been searching for a dedicated source of funding for those organizations and this proposal deserves consideration. However, there is a process to be followed and we must remember that the County has still not recovered from financial crisis. The proposal must come before the Finance and Management Committee and the Community Enrichment Committees of the Legislature and it will have to be reviewed by the Legislature as a whole. We must keep in mind, also, that anytime dedicated funding is involved, it takes away from some other budget item. The results of such an action have to be defined and reviewed.
