Erie County Legislator Pulls for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northtowns

Buffalo, NY – July 02, 2009 – Thanks to the efforts of 10th District County Legislator Michelle Iannello there was a significant increase in the county funding through the Primetime grant that was awarded to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northtowns this year. Legislator Iannello helped the organization to secure a grant of $27,000 to help children attend summer camp. With this grant funding 150 children, ages 13-18, will be able to attend one of the organization's summer camps. This grant also helps to fund the organization's Future Leaders In Training (FLIT) program. The FLIT programs offers these teenagers the opportunity to receive leadership training and help the current staff with monitoring and advising the younger campers in the hopes to be great camp staff members themselves in the future.
Legislator Iannello was happy to do what she could to help more kids attend camp, and more families solve the issue of what to do with their kids while they go to work and school is out. "Camps are no longer a recreational luxury, but they fill a family's need in these tough economic times. With the increasing number of single parent households in our community, summer camps have become an increasing necessity and are a more practical alternative than costly day care. At the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northtowns' camps, the quality of the activities and programs are of the highest caliber, often educational but always fun", comments Iannello.
